Preparing for Hurricane Irma | Virgin

I will be on Necker alongside our team, as I have been on the three times we have had hurricanes over the past 30 years. -Richard Branson

Billionaire Richard Branson is riding out Hurricane Irma on his private island in the Caribbean. He’s done this before. His wine cellar is sufficient to pretty much be hurricane proof. Plus, it has wine.

On the surface, this seems to be a very dude-like move. Branson likes to stay chill, at least in his public persona.

I question whether his “team” volunteered for the trip, though. Putting the lives of others at risk doesn’t seem very Dudeist. I would like to assume that the people around him trust his decisions; that would be rather important.

I’ll write more about the dude way to ride out a hurricane tomorrow because there may yet be another one following on the tale of Irma. This could be a rough year.

In the mean time, I wonder what it’s like being trapped in Richard Branson’s wine cellar while a Cat 5 hurricane rattles the island. I hope he has plenty of merlot.

Oh, and Mr. Branson, if you don’t mind, while we’re all here in your wine cellar, perhaps you’d be in the mood to make a few donations. Not all the dudes in Florida and the Caribbean have wine cellars of their own. They could use some help.
